RIP Greg Plitt
My Greg Plitt Tribute – The Passing Of A True Ass Kicker
Greg Plitt was without a doubt the biggest motivator in the fitness industry for me.
An ex Army Ranger in charge of 180 soldiers, the most photographed fitness magazine cover model, founder of multiple companies in the fitness industry, motivational speaker, actor and all round badass.
He dedicated his life to motivating and inspiring others – with over 1,500 recorded jumps as a professional skydiver it’s safe to say Greg lived his life to the fullest.
“Plitt has broken fitness-modeling records by being on a fitness magazine cover every month in a row for an impressive 5 years straight.”
Several days ago I received several messages from friends exclaiming that he had passed away in a freak accident – as the internet is full of rumours and lies I waited for this to be debunked as the majority of celebrity deaths are.
Several hours later I discovered it wasn’t a hoax and that Greg had been hit and killed by a train while filming an advertisement for a protein shake commercial on the side of a railroad in Burbank, California.
Greg’s Goals & Vision (Read This)
“I think if one can go through life with no regrets, then they have lived a good life. Easy to say, harder to live, but once lived, even for a moment, it rewards you with a tremendous amount of fulfillment. Everyone comes to the crossroads in their lives and the decision that one makes to chose one path over the other is the decision that will ultimately haunt them or reward them. The reason for a past decision revealing itself in the future to haunt you is because of the criteria used to determine the decision. When the criteria used to make a decision at the crossroads is weighted by expressions like: “what is the safe choice,” “what makes me comfortable,” or “what if I fail;” you can bet a percentage of your potential will forever be lost and unexplored as it is left back at that crossroad in life. Many will choose to ignore and forget the moment and continue on with life. The problem is that shortly afterwards they will cash out on their childhood dreams of becoming that someone as they settle with what is left and available in life.
Along the path, you will find the width narrows and the walls get closer and closer as you feel the pressure of life on your shoulders. You will notice that the only one along with you on this path ultimately is your shadow. As the pressure builds you rely on your confidence and ability to push through, once through the first pressure plate of life, you find you have some newly developed confidence to who you are. This confidence is a perishable characteristic, but one that will be shortly called upon because the path only gets thinner and thinner as the incline gets steeper and steeper. As this path ends and you reach your goal, you realize that the journey was more rewarding then the goal itself as your confidence is so high you feel you can overcome anything. Granted, as you began the journey, you were scared and nervous, you didn’t know if you had what it took to make it, but you didn’t let that be the deciding point of whether or not to pursue your goal. At the top now looking back on the journey, you know more about who you are inside than ever before. Along the journey you remember hitting a few walls you could not negotiate on your first try. A small set back, but due to your character you don’t look at it as failure, you look at it as a representation of where you currently are and what is needed for you to improve yourself in order to overcome the immediate wall in your life.
What I Learned From Following Greg’s Journey
If You Want To Succeed You HAVE To Play The Long Game
Greg’s latest entrepreneurial venture, the ‘Metaball’ a piece of fitness equipment designed for those whom wish to train at home due to budget constraints and those whom don’t have the room for a full home gym was in the works for over 7 years. There were multiple times at which Greg’s team advised him the Metaball was good to go – he however wasn’t so sure, being a perfectionist he insisted on doing it right and fired numerous individuals and lost a ton of money by scrapping the Metaball and starting again.
Build The Foundation Right And The House Will Stand Strong
Don’t cheat or shortcut your way to success.
Success, fame or fortune acquired by corrupt or immoral means will never last – this is like building a mansion on unstable ground. It’ll stand tall but only for so long before it comes crashing down in all it’s glory, while the mansion is standing you’re constantly on edge waiting for chaos to set in.
By putting in the hard yards and building the foundation correctly you’ll never have to worry about the risk of getting caught out or losing your success because you earned it… and if you can do it once you can do it again.
It’s All In The Mind
The body is just the messenger.
The real battle in the gym and in life is within your mind – if you can envision yourself doing something (whether this be benching 315lbs for 10 reps or launching a million dollar start-up company) and you work relentlessly towards this goal you’ll undoubtedly achieve it.
The opposite applies too however, if you’re working towards a goal that you can’t envision yourself achieving then it’s pretty safe to say you’re never going to make it.
You need to believe it yourself… if you don’t who will?
Do Not Silence The Voice In Your Head, Take Action
Life is short and far too many men spend their waking hours merely going through the motions – they’re alive but their not living.
They’ve conditioned themselves to block out that voice in their head telling them what they really want to do as they grind day by day in their 9 – 5 job, living for the weekend or a big win on their lottery ticket. Deep down they’re dying little by little as they fail to chase their dreams.
Don’t live a life of quiet desperation like them. Get out there and pursue whatever it is you want to do – trying and failing is far superior to the man who spends the rest of his days later in life wondering “what if?”. That’s the biggest mistake you can make.
Sacrifice Today For Tomorrow’s Betterment
Be an investor.
Be willing to put in the hard work today so you can reap the rewards tomorrow.
Nothing worthwhile is obtained without pain – you either face the pain today e.g. endless hours working to acquire the funds to purchase X or you take the other path and accept the prize before the pain – e.g. purchasing X with a massive loan, leaving you paralysed in terms of your finances because you weren’t prepared to put in the work first and earn it.
