Does The Steak And Eggs Diet Neglect Nutrients?

Compared to the typical American’s diet the steak and eggs diet actually contains more in terms of vitamins and nutrients – this is a common misconception due to the fact that the steak and eggs diet only consists of 2 foods, however these 2 foods are loaded with a hell of a lot more nutrients than the majority of junk foods comprising the typical American’s diet.

Eggs contain calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.

Steak is high in iron, zinc, selenium, vitamin B12 and Vitamin B6.

That said, regardless of the diet you’re following I do recommending supplementing a few beneficial supplements, these aren’t supplements that’re designed to ‘boost your testosterone in 2 days’ or ‘triple your 1 rep maximum on the flat bench press’ like many of the supplements that lime the walls of your local bodybuilding store promise…

What Supplements Should You Take While Following Vince Gironda’s Diet?

I recommend taking the following supplements while following the steak and eggs diet, these aren’t mandatory but you’ll feel and perform better provided you’re taking them consistently.

Vitamin D3

Unless you’re spending significant amounts of time outside each day chances are you’re deficient in Vitamin D (I know I am!) supplementing with Vitamin D is a great way to improve your health, happiness and performance. You can read more about Vitamin D in my post here.

Zinc Picolinate

Zinc is the most important mineral for men. Healthy hair, skin and sex drive is all a result of high zinc levels. I take 100mg of zinc per day, forgot the natural testosterone boosters that supplement stores are pedalling, get some zinc instead.

Caffeine

Cheap, effective caffeine powder. Fantastic for creating your own pre-workout supplements or just for that increased focus and energy when you need it. Caffeine has had more studies performed on it than any other stimulant in the world. All results point to increases in endurance, focus and reaction time in athletes – it’s a no brainer.

As you’re going to be consuming literally no carbohydrates while following the steak and eggs diet the first few days you’ll find your energy levels lacking, a 200mg caffeine pill works wonders either as a pick me up or as a pre-workout stimulant.

Dandelion Root Extract

Dandelion root extract is a staple when I’m in a cutting phase. Dandelion acts as a natural diuretic, meaning when I take dandelion root extract my body does not hold as much water weight – giving that lean and dry look (and gives the illusion of holding less body fat).

When dandelion root extract is coupled with the steak and eggs diet the amount of water weight lost, particularly in the first week or two will be extremely noticeable.
