The Steak And Eggs Diet Results
The steak and eggs diet, created by Vince Gironda in the days of old school bodybuilding without a doubt works.
One major factor that comes into play when comparing the steak and eggs diet to any other form of diet out there is the discipline - when you're on this diet your meal choices are locked in - we're not playing a game of tetris with if it fits your macros.
We're nailing down and sticking to steak and eggs, day in day out until we've achieved the results we want.
"SJ but how does the steak and eggs diet work again?"
If you're unfamiliar with the old school steak and eggs diet I recommend reading my comprehensive article on this diet here.
As a quick refresher...
The Rules For Your Steak And Eggs Diet
- You eat twice per day, either at breakfast and dinner or lunch and dinner
- Each meal is to be the same
- Each meal should contain 0.75 – 1.5lbs of steak and between 3 and 6 eggs
- Your eggs can be prepared in whatever fashion you enjoy most (I like to poach mine)
- Use as much or as little butter and seasoning (salt/pepper) as you wish on your steak
- Every 5th day is cheat day – eat whatever you want
Won't I Be Neglecting Nutrients?
This is open to debate but unless you're coming from a superfood diet into the steak and eggs diet my answer is no, not at all.
Yes, you're only going to be consuming two primary foods for the course of your diet however...
Eggs are loaded with calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.
Meanwhile your cuts of steak are high in iron, zinc, selenium, vitamin B12 and Vitamin B6.
When compared to the diet of the average overweight American you'll be consume far more, high quality nutrients per day.
Bulking On The Steak And Eggs Diet - Yay Or Nay?
As long as you're in a caloric surplus (consuming more calories than your body needs to maintain it's current weight on a 24 hour basis) then yes, you'll be able to gain weight while following Vince Gironda's old school diet.
However, the steak and eggs diet isn't the most efficient diet for bulking - the sheer amount of steak and eggs you'd need to consume to place your body in a caloric surplus if you're around my size is around 3800 calories.
For reference, 2 meals per day consisting of 200 grams of steak and 5 eggs per meal still only equals a grand total of 1900~ calories.
If you want to build serious mass you're going to have to introduce carbohydrates to fill the void.
Brown rice, sweet potato, steel cut oats... throw some carbs into each meal, ensure you're hitting a caloric surplus and you'll stack on mass.
