On The Other Side Of Pain (Want To Be Successful? Read This…)

People are resistant to change, they don’t like it. Having worked in the IT industry for a few years I quickly learned that regardless of whether an individual knows they can have a flashy, efficient, updated system they associate the pain of not knowing what they’re doing etc. as a means of it not being worth it – they’re lazy, they’re comfortable with what they have. They may not be happy but it’s good enough.

Welcome to mediocrity.

Well let me tell you, if you want to be successful you’re going to have to push past pain, a lot of pain. When you’re in the gym you must push your body to its absolute limits if you ever want to see growth. The primary purpose of our body is to survive, it does not want to increase the amount of lean muscle mass you’re currently holding – you have to create the demand, you have to create the need for your body to become stronger.

In order to create that demand you need to go through a lot of pain, it’s going to feel uncomfortable when you hit that 4th rep on your heavy set of squats when you know you still have to lower yourself within a few inches of the ground with a 315lb barbell positioned on your back before struggling back up another two times, and that’s just to complete this set. Do you stop at 4 reps? Or do you find the intestional fortitude to push out those last two reps to complete your set?

Losers stop on the 4th rep when it becomes uncomfortable. Not you.

It’s small, painful decisions like these that separate the good from the great.

This theory of pain doesn’t end in the gym, and we’re not only talking in the physical sense either… If you want to build a business you’re going to have to go through a lot of pain too, arguably more than if you were building your body.

Why?

Because you can’t control all of the external factors at play.

What you can do though is work relentlessly! This means you’ll encounter roadblock after roadblock, you’ll get told ‘No’ more times than you get told ‘Yes’, you’ll have to pass on opportunities to go to the beach, or to the bar with your buddies to turn this vision of yours into a reality.

Push through the pain today and reap the rewards tomorrow.

You can own the bar or live in a mansion on the beach. It’s entirely possible… You just have to put in the work first.

If you’ve found a compelling ‘WHY’ behind your main goal you’ll be willing to subject yourself to as much pain as necessary to achieve your goal… and it’s those select few that can increase their pain threshold and continue to grind away and grind away until they get exactly what it is they wanted.

Stay Ready So you Don't Have To Get Ready

The average man has a very low pain threshold. Next time you’re in the gym look around… it’s very rare to see someone pushing themselves past that point of physical discomfort and into the region of pain.

Next time you do see someone going balls to the wall in the gym you’ll probably notice that they’ve forged a noteworthy physique. But remember, they had to go through the pain first to get there. There is no way arund tgis equasion whatsoever. You can’t buy a body, you can’t cheat the system.

What you can do is increase your pain threshold and get what you want.

Helen Keller, both deaf and blind did not allow these external factors to bind her to a life of mediocrity.

“Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.”  - Helen Keller

How do you increase your pain threshold?

Understand that is it 100 percent self embodied within your mind. Next time you find yourself presented with an opportunity that allows you to grow – whether this be in the gym, in your business or in your relationships ensure you’re giving it your all, as I said - your mind will throw in the towel 100 times before your body does.

Practise stoicism - subject yourself regularly to cold showers, ice baths, barefoot running, sleeping on the floor etc. put yourself through the worst case scenario so if you fail and you do end up out on a limb, bankrupt you know exactly what to expect.

Arnold Schawarzenegger spent thousands upon thousands of hours in the gym to build the physique know as one of the most famous Mr Olympia’s of all time.

He went through the pain before he got the title.

Elon Musk, founder of PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX speaks of putting in 80 hours of work a week. He understands that his competition are hard workers, they’re putting in consistent 60 hours weeks. Elon knew that if he wanted to reach the echelon of success he’d have to increase his pain threshold and endure more. By working 80 hours a week he’s essentially working one whole day more than his competition. In 52 weeks he has worked 52 more days.

Endure the pain, claim the fame.

You can’t do it the other way around, anyone who tries to sell you the result or the success before the work is a snake oil salesmen... no exceptions.

Most people won’t endure pain, they’re lazy. They don’t like the uncomfortable feeling,

I learnt a plethora of new information on dieting and fitness by reading and applying what I read, to find out what does work and what doesn’t work, because as I’m sure you’ve noticed the health and fitness industry is full of non-sense claims and BS. I found out what was true and what worked for me and applied that knowledge. And you bet I had fun during the whole process.
