My Morning Routine While Travelling

In order to start the day energized and happy you must have a morning routine, albeit on holidays your morning routine will be different to your regular routine because you won't have access to the same facilities, time constraints and equipment.

A morning routine should awaken you and prepare you for the day both mentally and physically, ensuring you have small wins in both areas to ensure you've built positive momentum going forward in your day.

Even if what follows is a terrible day you've improved your mind and body by smashing out your morning routine before anything else has gone down.

Here's My Current Morning Routine While Travelling

6:00am Wake Up

I wake up without an alarm between 5:40 and 6:00am regardless of what time I go to bed the night before. Upon rising I prepare a pot of black coffee.

6:15am Gym

After strolling a few hundred metres to the gym the work begins, I'll perform a brief mobility routine before attacking the specified body part for that day, when possible I lift in 4 - 6 rep range, however as not all gyms have a large selection of Dumbbells and 45lb weight plates I'll train with a slightly higher emphasis on hypertrophy.

7:00am Sauna

Immediately after finishing my workout I'll spend 20 minutes in the steam or infrared sauna, not only does this provide fantastic recovery benefits (I rarely find myself getting DOMs after consistently using the sauna post workout) but it also works wonders for your skin!

7:20am Cold Shower

I'll then spend 3 - 5 minutes in a cold shower with the tap turned as far to the cold side as possible. I let the cold water rush over my neck and down your back. Hold the victory pose with your arms raised as you allow the cold water to rush down your chest.

If you weren't awake from the weights and sauna then this'll feel like a double shot of espresso injected directly into your bloodstream.

7:30am Read & Green Smoothie

As my focus and energy peaks begins to peak I'll read and take notes for book reviews and articles for IgnoreLimits. After 30 - 60 minutes of doing so I'll head out exploring temples, hiking or snorkelling.

When time is off the essence or I don't have access to a gym instead of skipping my routine I'll simplify, here's another example routine you can emulate when you're on the road...

My Simplified Morning Routine (30 mins)

  • Wake up
  • Hip flexor & rotator cuff stretches
  • Body weight circuit
  • Cold shower
  • Journaling in iPhone notepad

I’m SJ. I’m a fitness enthusiast and published author. I transformed my body from a skinny fat 135lbs with 18% body fat to a solid 192lbs at 8% body fat. I became qualified in a field I was passionate about. I founded several online businesses that allow me to pursue ideas and projects in my life that I am passionate about without having to constantly worry about money. I published several eBooks explaining the training and dieting techniques I used to achieve the body I have today. I learnt a plethora of new information on dieting and fitness by reading and applying what I read, to find out what does work and what doesn’t work, because as I’m sure you’ve noticed the health and fitness industry is full of non-sense claims and BS. I found out what was true and what worked for me and applied that knowledge. And you bet I had fun during the whole process.
