Finish The Year Strong (And How To Get A Head Start On Your Competition…)

Finish The Year Strong

The end of 2017 is just around the corner.

Most guys started the year strong with a healthy blend of both fitness & business goals....

  • Signing 4 clients a month to their subscription service.
  • Dropping from 20% fat down to a lean and mean 8%.
  • Repping out 315lbs on their barbell back squat
  • Taking their first trip to travel and work from the picturesque islands off of Bali, Indonesia.

Everyone is hot off the mark at the start of the year.

In the beginning it's easy to get shit done as motivation flows through your veins,  as you begin to see little bits of progress here and there on those new goals and resolutions.

You feel invincible.

Then adversity strikes, be it in the form of an  injury, a financial setback, a business failure, prolonged writers block.

During this time many men get on the wrong side of the mistress known as momentum.

They get confused, they half-ass what they're doing with little to no motivation and essentially end up performing time wasting activities as a result of confusion.

This is known as twaddle tendency.

Don’t twaddle – instead opt to retreat, save your energy and plot instead of burning your finite energy achieving nothing (Tai Lopez refers to this as ‘flurries of activity’)

Sound Familiar? Don't Allow Yourself To Get De-Railed From Your Goals!

Take charge and finish the year strong with my actionable steps below...

1. Amass A Series Of Small Wins...

What you do upon waking in the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day.

If you get out of bed late, eat junk food and sit around in your pyjamas all morning it comes as no surprise that you’re probably not getting the results you want out of life because you’re starting every day the wrong way…

You must begin your day with small wins.

I’m not talking about crushing your monthly sales figure or blowing your current bench 1RM out of the park…

I’m talking about tiny, tiny goals.

Be it reading 10 pages of that new book on stoicism you purchased or perhaps holding a handstand progression for 5 seconds.

Set yourself up with small winnable tasks and watch your momentum grow.

Say you’re going to do something then follow through and actually do it!

If it takes less than 5 minutes do it right now, be it making that phone call or taking out the rubbish.

“Do not put off for tomorrow that which can be done today.” - Benjamin Franklin

Later becomes never.

2. Be Specific!

Unless what you're doing is specific you're going to spend the remainder of the year spinning your wheels.

Two common 'goals' I constantly hear are 'getting fitter' and 'improving my business'.

If I dedicated myself from now until the end of the year working on these I can guarantee you I wouldn't get anywhere.

They're not specific at all.

They're not measurable.

That comes with two big issues...

  • You cannot achieve something if you don't know exactly what it is you're aiming for.
  • You cannot measure your progress if you don't know the specifics of what you're measuring (progress is the ultimate motivator, without a way to measure progress you're dead in the water).

Here’s a few examples of specific, measurable goals...

I want to gain 20lbs of lean muscle mass by December 31st, 2017

I want to reach 8% body fat by December 31st, 2017

This does not only apply to your health and fitness related goals, I recommend being specific for literally anything and everything you want to accomplish.

Want to clear 100K in revenue in 2017? This may sound monumental, but if you break down your overwhelming goals into smaller chunks they instantly seem more manageable and attainable:

Instead of I will make 100k in 2017 opt for ‘I will make $273 per day’ (this is known as a DIG or Daily Income Goal).

Make it your mission to go on 2 new dates per week (potentially meeting 104 new girls in a year!).

3. Plan

Have a to-do list, don’t fall into a trap of listing down 100 different tasks for each day – that’s counterproductive, instead place 2 – 4 important tasks on your to-do list each day that will take you CLOSER to reaching those goals.

Example of my to-do list for today (Monday - November 13th, 2017)

Train legs & core

Write 'Finish The Year Strong' blog post

Record & edit 5 exercises for the IgnoreLimits exercise library

Finish reading 'Got Fight?' by Forrest Griffin

Each of these tasks falls inline with my goals.

4. Ride This Momentum Into 2018...

Don't wait until January 1st to take eradicate those bad habits or build the physique of your dreams.

What difference does a change of calendar date honestly have to do with you achieving your goals?

Start today, you’ll get a head start on the competition.

Stop eating junk food today, start lifting heavy today, begin keyword research for your new eCommerce store today.

Master the mistress that is momentum now while others remain dormant until January 1st, 2018.

I’m SJ. I’m a fitness enthusiast and published author. I transformed my body from a skinny fat 135lbs with 18% body fat to a solid 192lbs at 8% body fat. I became qualified in a field I was passionate about. I founded several online businesses that allow me to pursue ideas and projects in my life that I am passionate about without having to constantly worry about money. I published several eBooks explaining the training and dieting techniques I used to achieve the body I have today. I learnt a plethora of new information on dieting and fitness by reading and applying what I read, to find out what does work and what doesn’t work, because as I’m sure you’ve noticed the health and fitness industry is full of non-sense claims and BS. I found out what was true and what worked for me and applied that knowledge. And you bet I had fun during the whole process.
