6 Lessons From The DJ Khaled The Keys Book

DJ Khaled The Keys Book Review

Regardless of whether you're a fan of DJ Khaled's music or not you've got to respect the positivity and hustle that oozes from this man.

On the road to becoming a self-made man DJ Khaled learnt a number of hard truths and 'keys' as he calls them... this book delves deep into the keys and lessons he attributes to his success which YOU can apply to your life.

Does Khaled promise you'll become an elusive overnight success?

"It's been ten years of We The Best, ten years since I started my own company. I'm blessed, but a decade is a long time, and I've been in the game for even longer. What I'm saying is that I'm forty and I'm just now on my way. I will never stop." - DJ Khaled

Not a chance, he knows it takes years, but if you've got the blue print you can avoid the failures and pitfalls that others encounter along the way.

"But SJ, how do I get ahead in life then?!"

Read the book, align your life with the keys and put in the work.

6 Lessons From The Keys

"The keys are are guiding principles to prosperity. Think of them as commandments that will lead you to success and then more success" - DJ Khaled

When You Speak It Into Existence It Will Happen

"I knew the framed magazine covers were coming and the gold plaques and then the platinum plaques. I envisioned it all. One of my gifts is that I can see the pathway early." - DJ Khaled

You must envision your success before you achieve it, as the #1 cause of failure is your own lack of self belief! While on the journey, whether this be attaining a certain amount of money, mastery in a skill or a specific qualification you must constantly visualize yourself achieiving the goal - if you can't see yourself acheiving it you'll subject yourself to negative self-talk resulting in self-sabotage.

Conor McGregor is the best example of the power of self-belief...

From collecting welfare cheques a mere four years ago to enter the Forbes list in June 2017 as one of the 25 highest paid athletes of the year.

Removing What Makes You Unhappy Will Make You Happy

"Removing what makes you unhappy will make you happy. That sounds obvious, too, but believe me, people forget to take out the trash all the time." - DJ Khaled

This is also known as via negativa.

When it comes to improving your life, be it in the sense of weight loss, building a business, improving your relationships or increasing your energy and productivity we’re always looking to make additions in the hope of improvements.

Instead of eliminating excess calories we’re eating we opt to add a fat burner pill to our routine.

When we’re constantly running low on energy instead of opting to cut out our negative habit of a mere 4 hours of sleep a night we opt to drink more coffee.

Instead of seeking happiness by buying luxury items opt to spend that money outsourcing and eliminating tasks and responsibilities that bring negativity into your life.

Make Grooming Part of Your Ritual

"It's like putting your game face on; it builds confidence and gets your mind in the right zone." - DJ Khaled

Whether we like to admit it or not humans make snap decisions and form impressions based on appearance.

Take yourself seriously and follow a basic skin care regime, Black Nubian soap and coconut oil is all it takes.

When it comes to your physique the mirror doesn’t lie, the inner always reflects on the outer. If you’ve got a bulletproof mind and are willing to forego the temporary satisfaction of junk food and convenience in exchange for a strict diet and gruelling workouts your physique will reflect just that. On the other hand if you’re always taking the easy, convenient way out don’t be shocked when you’re unimpressed with what you see in the mirror.

Give yourself the upper hand by looking the part and you'll conform to the halo effect, a cognitive bias we're all susceptible to...

As Victor Pride said "The halo effect is a cognitive bias in which you judge a persons character, their insides, by their outward appearance and their demeanor. Someone who is handsome, likable, clean and charismatic will benefit from the halo effect. The man who has the halo effect in people can do no wrong. No matter what he does he is forgiven and looked up to."

It's Delusional Thinking You Need To Burn Out to Attain Success

"For me, a more sustainable and fulfilling kind of success was understanding that not only is there no trade-off between living a well-rounded life and high performance, performance is actually improved when our lives include time for rest and renewal. It's a major key." - Arianna Huffington

You cannot be productive 24/7, it's just not possible. Spending 10 hours in the gym each day will not get you any further than training hard for an hour or two a day...

Hell, you'll likely regress.

To perform at your best you must be sharp, to be sharp you must be well-rested.

Stop grinding yourself into the ground and have some down time and you'll find overall you'll both achieve and progress at a higher level (provided your down time does not involve self-sabotaging your progress!).

Workers Work, Bosses Own

"Don't think about just the next six months of your life, think about the next sixty years. You want the security of ownership because you never know what's going to happen." - DJ Khaled

This was a hard truth for me.

You won’t get rich working for someone else, sales being the only real exception here.

An hourly wage or a yearly salary, albeit even a large fixed salary will not make you rich.

At what point would you consider someone rich? Perhaps at the 2 million dollar net worth mark?

If so, with a $200,000 salary and 50% savings you’re going to take 20 years of saving to get to that mark, not to mention the amount of stress and expectations from the corporation that’s dishing you out those 6 figures.

Real wealth isn’t tied to a clock, real wealth comes through ownership.

Owning in demand domain names, owning the rights to a published book, owning real estate… this is where real wealth comes from.

You’re no longer clocking in and out of an office, your assets are doing the work for you.

If You Don't Feel Challenged You're Missing Opportunities

"The day every battle feels relaxed you'd better wake up. That means you retired and you didn't even know it. If you don't feel challenged at all, you need to look around and see if you ain't missing opportunities that you should be up on." - DJ Khaled

You must ALWAYS strive to grow. If you're not growing you're rotting.

Strive for that higher grade, set yourself business goals you know are audacious and will require every ounce of your blood, sweat and tears to accomplish.
You will not find satisfaction in performing easy task after easy task.

You must be challenged to enter the state of 'flow'.

The goal is to focus on constantly pushing yourself to achieve the ecstatic state of flow, in which time almost stands still. I speak from experience when I say I’m happiest when I’m immersed in a challenge, when every ounce of energy and focus is placed directly on the workout I’m doing, on the book I’m writing, on the article I’m proof-reading…

Here’s a check list to run your tasks by to determine whether they'll challenge you and allow you to enter the state of flow...

  1. The experience is challenging and requires skills but we have a chance of completing it.
  2. We must be able to concentrate on what we are doing.
  3. The task has clear goals.
  4. It provides immediate feedback on whether we are reaching those goals.
  5. We become absorbed in the activity and forget about the worries of everyday life.
  6. We have a sense of control over our actions.
  7. Concern for the self disappears (though the sense of self emerges stronger after the experience is over).
  8. Time disappears – hours can pass like minutes, yet minutes can stretch out to seem like hours.

What's Your Take On These Lessons From The Keys by DJ Khaled?

Scott J.
Scott J.https://ignorelimits.com
I’m SJ. I’m a fitness enthusiast and published author. I transformed my body from a skinny fat 135lbs with 18% body fat to a solid 192lbs at 8% body fat. I became qualified in a field I was passionate about. I founded several online businesses that allow me to pursue ideas and projects in my life that I am passionate about without having to constantly worry about money. I published several eBooks explaining the training and dieting techniques I used to achieve the body I have today. I learnt a plethora of new information on dieting and fitness by reading and applying what I read, to find out what does work and what doesn’t work, because as I’m sure you’ve noticed the health and fitness industry is full of non-sense claims and BS. I found out what was true and what worked for me and applied that knowledge. And you bet I had fun during the whole process.
