Blast and Cruise Goal Setting – Achieve Your Goals With Laser Focus

It's 2015, a few months ago you locked in your goals for the year.

A technique I've implemented to ensure I achieve my goals is the 'blast and cruise'.

blast and cruise

this term is often used when talking about steroid cycles (using a very heavy dosage prior to dropping to a 'maintenance' dosage to ensure gains are kept). I'm not here to talk about steroids but the concept behind this productivity tip is the same.

Identify 1 (and only one) of your goals, as of right now for me it's reaching 6% body fat.

Dedicate your free time to achieving this goal with absolute focus. Your other goals? Put them on the back burner for now, we'll get to them next - chasing too many goals at once is a sure-fire way to end up with paralysis by analysis when you become overwhelmed with the hefty endeavours you've laid out for the year.

[Tweet "You can do two things at once, but you can't focus effectively on two things at once."]

I mentioned in a previous article - '5 Tips to Increase Productivity':

"Energy goes where attention flows. In the early days of your endeavours branching out and attempting to multitask is extremely counterproductive, focus your attention on the one particular task at hand and I guarantee you will notice an immense increase in your overall productivity and quality of workmanship put into that task. Just imagine you were drilling for oil, you initially begin to drill down for an extended period of time, eventually once you’ve struck the oil you can begin to branch out in any directions"

As of right now I have shifted 100% of my focus to this one goal and it's going to be crossed off in the next few weeks.

Training, dieting and photoshoot preparation (decreasing water retention etc.) are my #1 focus until I reach 6% body fat.

Instead of half assing it and 'multitasking' which has been proven to be inefficient in terms of speed of work and quality of work I relentlessly chase 1 (and only one) goal until it is achieved. If I were to focus on building my business while following through with incredibly strict dieting I know it would be a recipe for disaster, neither outcomes would be achieved in the timeframe or way I envision.

During this time other aspects of life, responsibilities, goals etc. are given enough attention to be maintained.

Upon completion of this goal I will tick it off my '15 goals list and will nominate another one of my goals to hone in on, at which point I will either maintain my low body fat or transition into a slow bulking phase - known as the 'cruise' portion of this technique, for a time being it will no longer be my priority.

Blast and cruise goal setting can be applied to any facet of life such as

  • Fitness (either build muscle or burn fat... stop spinning your wheels attempting to achieve both at the same time)
  • Business (launch ONE business and make ONE business successful before delving into multiple ventures)
  • Relationships

Let whoever think whatever, just keep getting better.

In short:

Blast: Shift your priorities to hone in on 1 specific goal at a time.

Cruise: Maintain your progress upon completion.

Rinse and repeat the above.

I became qualified in a field I was passionate about. I founded several online businesses that allow me to pursue ideas and projects in my life that I am passionate about without having to constantly worry about money. I published several eBooks explaining the training and dieting techniques I used to achieve the body I have today. I learnt a plethora of new information on dieting and fitness by reading and applying what I read, to find out what does work and what doesn’t work, because as I’m sure you’ve noticed the health and fitness industry is full of non-sense claims and BS. I found out what was true and what worked for me and applied that knowledge. And you bet I had fun during the whole process.
