Testosterone, a depreciating asset…
They say a man’s testosterone level drops 1% for each year he ages over the mid 30’s, although new evidence suggests that now men have a far lower testosterone levels than their fathers did.
Your libido, your masculinity, your muscle mass...
They all rely on testosterone.
This ‘new evidence’ really does not surprise me. Next time you’re out in public in an area that has a bit of foot traffic (a shopping mall) spend a minute people watching.
I can guarantee you that at least 80 – 90% of men you see walking by have insufficient testosterone levels.
You can tell by the way they carry themselves
It seems that holding your head low, walking around aimlessly without a purpose is the new norm. These men are alive, but they certainly aren’t living.
So who or what is to blame for this tapering off in testosterone?
The main causes include:
- Obesity – lower testosterone, higher estrogen
- Toxins (think BPA in plastic water bottles etc.)
- Diet – processed food is doing you no favour
- No demand – if you aren’t lifting heavy or asserting your masculinity in one way or another, you’re sitting around complacently
- Feminism – encouraging women to be men and men to be pussies
The good news is by making several small but manageable lifestyle changes you can naturally increase your testosterone.
Increase your fat intake
Now, for the record the consumption of fats have nothing to do with actually getting fat – this is a common misconception. YES 1 gram of fat does contain more calories (9) than 1 gram of either protein or carbohydrates (which each contain 4 calories per gram).
Increasing your fat intake is a simple as adding more steak and eggs to your diet, eat more nuts (almonds) and cook with either coconut or olive oil.
Decrease your intake of processed foods
Ice cream, pizza, pop tarts and all those other processed goodies are doing you no favours. Recently the whole ‘If it Fits Your Macros’ craze is peaking in the fitness & bodybuilding community – suggesting that as long as you are consuming your golden number of calories each day you can eat whatever you want.
This does work but ONLY if you’re concerned about the body composition side of things.
You are essentially depriving your body of essential micronutrients and will feel like crap for eating processed ‘food’ as opposed to fresh cuts of meat, eggs and leafy greens.
Lift heavy!
When you’re in the gym be in there with a purpose. Don’t waste your time performing 12 – 15 reps here and there. As a natural lifter you’re wasting your time.
You need to be focusing on compound lifts… ditch the bicep curls and focus on heavy squats, heavy deadlifts, heavy bench press, and heavy overhead press.
Stress less
Forget about those worthless testosterone boosters you see plastered on every 2nd page of those men’s fitness magazines you’ve seen… they 100% do not work. Focus on changing your lifestyle via my main points listed above and then report back.
Your levels will not reach that of someone injecting synthetic testosterone, but they will gradually increase as you welcome and continue these lifestyle changes.
